Orbit-superposition Dynamical Modeling of Barred Galaxies

چکیده

Abstract Barred structures are important in understanding galaxy evolution, but they were not included explicitly most dynamical models for nearby galaxies due to their complicated morphological and kinematic properties. We modify the triaxial orbit-superposition Schwarzschild implementation by van den Bosch et al. include barred explicitly. The gravitational potential is a combination of spherical dark matter halo stellar mass; with 3D density distribution deprojected from observed 2D image using two-component deprojection method, including an axisymmetric disk bulge. consider figure rotation bar pattern speed as free parameter. validate method applying it mock integral field unit (IFU) data created N -body simulation boxy/peanut or X-shaped bar. Our model fits surface all features well. recovered well relative uncertainty smaller than 10%. Based on internal orbit model, we decompose into bar, boxy bulge, vertically extended structure disk, demonstrate that our recovers these generally well, similar true simulation. provides realistic way modeling IFU observations.

Dynamical spectra of barred galaxies

We apply the method of dynamical spectra in the case of a barred galaxy potential. We show its efficiency in detecting tiny ordered domains embedded in big chaotic seas. We can separate ordered from chaotic domains in the corotation region by integrating a number of orbits only for 10-20 orbital periods each. The method is more efficient than the use of the Poincaré section, while other methods...

Dynamical Evolution of Barred Galaxies

Angular momentum redistribution within barred galaxies drives their dynamical evolution. Angular momentum is emitted mainly by near-resonant material in the bar region and absorbed by resonant material mainly in the outer disc and in the halo. This exchange determines the strength of the bar, the decrease of its pattern speed, as well as its morphology. If the galaxy has also a gaseous componen...

Chaos and the Dynamical Evolution of Barred Galaxies

The dynamical evolution of barred galaxies depends crucially on the fraction and their spacial distribution of chaotic orbits in them. In order to distinguish between the two kinds of orbits, we use the Smaller Alignment Index (SALI) method, a very powerful method which can be applied to problems of galactic dynamics. Using model potentials, and taking into account the full 3D distribution of m...

Barred Galaxies

Theoretical studies suggest that large-scale stellar bars can be highly effective in delivering gas to the central few hundred parsecs of a spiral galaxy, which may then initiate rapid star formation. Further instabilities may lead to additional inflow to physical scales relevant for active galactic nuclei. We test these predictions in light of recent observations. Compared to unbarred spirals,...

Observations of Barred Galaxies

We review general observational properties of bars in galaxies, and relations between bars, their dynamics, and (circum)nuclear activity. We consider new measurements of bar fractions and of the distribution of bars with host type, bar strength, and bar pattern speeds. Bars redistribute material radially, leading to flattened abundance gradients and a diminished degree of disk-wide two-fold sym...
